Todd, either sandblast all the pits with a little blaster or just use the rust converter, then prime over that. I like the rustoleum red rust primer as well as Vaughn does. Just remember rust "never sleeps" so you have to get rid of it, encapsulate it or covert it to keep it from coming back. Of course the paints these days aren't like the old days. I used to use Napa's Martin Senour red oxide acrylic enamel primer sealer back in the 70's, the stuff never came off. I painted the inside of a dump body with it and when I sold the truck 20 years later it was still there.
