number 2 rule in winching and recovery is to NEVER tie down the end opposite of the winch on your truck! in my many years of towing I have seen several trucks 'camel-backed' from doing that! You can stretch your frame and will actually hump up the frame in the middle and render the truck useless! If you are slipping, place scotch blocks or other means in front of your front axle (wheels) to keep your truck steadfast! wheels. or do the same i your winch is at the rear, block the rear, in the case of clints winching, yes he has both ends tied through the winch but the rear is able to travel due to how it is rigged.
