I have worked with some great Architects and some very poor builders who were incompetent.
Builder cuts back on rebar
builder cuts back on concrete strength
builder cuts back on thickness of walls
Builder changes stud spacing
builder does not do compacting
Drainage calls for two runs of PVC, builder puts in big O
All sheathing plywood, builder installs chip board
lets not forget how dumb some clients are.
There are great builders, architects and engineers out there and some on the other end of the spectrum
Biggest problem with vehicles is not the designer but the business major who changes stuff from year to year in an effort to make the company more money. When I buy a vehicle I open the hood and look at service times for certain parts. If it looks like a PITA under the hood I take a pass:)
