Hello all,
I emailed Tim on the 21st using my currant email, ([email protected]). Don't know why he didn't get it.
Chris says that length is not a problem, but I disagree. The closer the rear and the OD are, the more severe the angle will be. To exagerate, if the output is directly above the input, the angle would bo 90 degrees.
The most epediant (but expensive) solution to the problem, is to use a Gear Vendors unit. The front cover is very short as there is no transition housing as with the Volvo unit.
There are also companies in England that sell Laycock units with short front covers.
Coupled with these other ideas, it would probably work. Don't forget however, if you are using a U joint as a coupling without a splined shaft inbetween, as I did, the two parts MUST be lined up exactly. A U joint actually varries in length as it moves in and out as it bends (right, Tim?).
Best,
Dennis
