Absolutely. Eventually someone is gonna figure out how to use coal to drive their generator.

My understanding is that Ford and other EV manufacturers were not very upfront about how much the range is negatively affected by cold.

A year or two ago, the California legislature and Newsom passed a bill preventing any new drilling for oil or natural gas in California. And they passed it without consideration or plans for an energy replacement as older wells become unproductive. Our gas bill quadrupled last month. And my tax money is paying the salaries of young people walking around the neighborhood and ringing doorbells in order to help me learn ways to conserve energy. Today I explained to one of these young men that the biggest lies they will ever hear is someone saying, "I am from the government and I am here to help you."

Did you know that gas for your Power Wagon in California costs 25% more because it has to be specially formulated to meet California's more stringent requirements, but no one has ever done a study to determine whether the more costly formulation has any effect on air pollution. Since the revenue from gas taxes increases as the price increases, there is negative motivation from politicians to find out if the more costly formulation has any positive effect.

I bought a new car in Ohio a few months ago, and even though all fifty states now have the same smog requirements and all cars sold in the US meet California emissions standards, I had to get a smog test on my new car from Ohio.
