Jerry, if you want to see the wheel cylinders while bleeding, regardless of the method used, you should not have to have the drums in place if you have some bar clamps large enough to clamp the brake shoes together to keep the cylinder pistons in place. (You may know of a carpenter friend who may have the clamps). ;^)
Or even some Vice-Grip clamps to hold the pistons in place if the brake shoes are not on the truck yet.
