The leaks I have experienced on all my old iron,
and corvettes is not after closing (tightening) the bleeder. But rather during the actual bleeding
with hand held Vacuum Pumps. When the bleeder is opened enough for a good brake flow, the vacuum sucks air in around the bleeder threads. You can see this when using clear plastic tube from the bleeder to a collection can. Since the vacuum pump cant hold a closed vacuum due to the leak around the threads, air gets re-introduced at the brake cylinder with either disk or drum brakes. I quit
using the hand vacuum pump many years ago due to this problem and went with a Summit Racing Power pressure bleeder. The Summit Racing model works very very well and is really
priced in line what a home user can afford to pay
