Thanks Todd for posting this ebay auction. I was not overly impressed with the truck, but I watched the video of them going to all of the work to pull it out of the timber. That was pretty cool. I have been on some of those recovery missions myself.

What really got my attention was that they were driving to Iowa on Interstate 80 and crossed over the Mississippi River on the Interstate 280 bridge. I saw their GPS that showed the route 61 exit for Muscatine. The next thing I noticed was the Wapello water tower.

There is really no reason for anyone traveling across Illinois and Iowa to go through Wapello unless your distination is specifically some place very near to Wapello as it would otherwise be an out-of-the-way trip. I then realized that this guys collection of junk is practically in my back yard. What cemented the deal is when the old gentleman mentioned Monmouth and Galesburg Illinois.

I have see this old fellow at farm auctions. It is really a small world and it was cool to see a video that took place near to home.

FYI. I know where there are at least two of those Cab-Over Crew-Cab Ford trucks complete with the service bed and fold over pole derrick. One can still be seen from a well traveled road. I also knew of a local dismantler of trucks that had a whole line-up of them in his yard back in the early 1980's, probably 10 or 12 total. (Dave Butler cleaned out all of the WWII stuff before the dismantler closed up for good years ago). Apparently in the 1940's and 1950's, those particular trucks were very popular with the power campanies and phone companies here in the Midwest.

Too bad I saw no Power-Wagons.

Junior
