Roof seam

What is the best way to treat the roof seam of a PW if the metal welting is rotten away. Besides sandblasting it clean before anything is done, is there a plastic welting that could be put in its place along with some 3M seam sealer? or just fill the seam with seam sealer and build it up to a desired shape? I'm sure someone has had experience fixing that seam.
