I have installed this engine in both the civilian and M-43. I used Turbo 400 transmissions in both. NO sheet metal mods necessary and the transfer case does NOT need to be moved or altered. Yes, it's a tight fit.... but well worth it considering you can change back to stock without much fuss. The only concern is oil filer to dif clearance which can be solved with a shorter filter or resort to an aftermarket remote mounting kit. Gas milage hovered aroung 7-9 for both. The 340 is/was a wonderful engine, but not a good choice for a 6.5k 4x4 without the internal mods as mentioned elsewhere. If anyone is interested in details, I'll be happy to share. -beep-
