If the worm and sector shaft are original or have not been replaced, chances are, there is some wear on the parts. If the adjustment of these parts is not routinely maintained, they get out of sync with each other or don't wear in unison. The same happens with the PW steering parts. When you have a lot of backlash from wear and you try to adjust the sector according to specs., the more you turn right or left, the harder the turn of the wheel becomes. The same happens with the drag link with the ball and cups, the wear will cause the balls to become ob-longed.

If the truck turned ok before the rebuild, the problem may be with the drag link and you might have the end cup adjustment too tight. Now that you back off the sector adjustment, you need to go back through and readjust according to the TM9-808.

I don't believe there is any issue with the knuckles if you didn't have any problems before the rebuild and the knuckle drag was set at 25 to 27-1/2 FT. LBS. Recheck the drag link adjustment and readjust the sector shaft. If adjusting the sector shaft according to the manual produces tight turns, then parts are worn and you'll need to back off the screw more. You can try turning all the way to the right or left, then take out the sector shaft end play and tighten the screw.
