Have you considered the R2.8? Does the $10k swap save you fuel costs? Of course not, but it you already have to get your engine rebuilt, how much more is the swap? How much does it cost to get a flathead rebuilt these days? My speculation is that the extra torque of a more modern engine plus lower ratio ring and pinion would get you another 10 mph, but the more experienced folk here point out that the axle seals and maybe other driveline components will not handle the extra rpm well.
