These days I don't need much of an excuse to buy special tools. My wife calls me a "spoiled American". When she grew up in Vietnam, her family had an axe that was often borrowed by villagers. I have had taps and dies for many years. When an new size is needed, I get it. I just recently bought a set of thread chasers. I have been scolded for using a tap to clean threads on engine blocks. I also have a decent set of helicoil insertion tools. Started with a couple of the basic sizes and added when a new size was needed. We all get a kick out of fixing things ourselves.
