After electrolysis or Evapo-rust, 90% of the rust is gone. I have been wire wheeling the remainder, but there is also a lot of area that is black instead of metallic silver. Some of the black looks like paint, but some if it is in the rust pitting, and it is hard for me to imagine that the inside of the divets still have paint on them. Is the black film something I need to remove? I have heard of taking the part back to metal and also heard or read that is a good way to preserve the parts being restored. Does that entail everything being metallic silver color? And if that black film is not paint, what is it?
