Something to keep in mind is - if I understand correctly - the front spring packs in early Power Wagons had intentional separations (from the factory) in one or two leaves in each stack. I don't recall what they were for, but I remember reading about them some years ago. What you're seeing in your springs could be those separations, rather that cracks.
I replaced the front springs in my '49 about 20 years ago because they were "cracked" and many years later, I read about those separations and came to the realization that I had probably discarded a good pair of spring packs.
