A winch is dangerous in only one way...if it is operated foolishly. Be aware that tens of millions (or more) of those winches found there way into the hands of some really dumb and inexperienced people. My cousin told me about some of the things they did with winches in Korea. A winch, improperly used, can sever a finger, a hand, and arm, or even cause your death.
Never wear gloves when feeding in the cable. Use a thick piece of cloth. If the cable has a snag in it you can let go of the rag.
Watch a lot of you tube videos and just don't do what some of the morons on the videos do.
A winch is like a firearm. Used properly it will do what it was designed to do. Used improperly it will cause great harm.
