The V6 idea has been kicked around before, but with the ease of swapping in a V8, I don't think it made it out of the idea stage. We're never going to see decent fuel mileage in these rigs without a diesel, so V8's just make more sense. There are a few examples of the slant six in use, and I bet someone has swapped a Jeep 258 or even a 242 fuelie, but after all the work and research involved, the V8 is the way most swaps go.
Now a 4BT, or even a 6BT has been done, and done well, and is a topic all by itself.
