I have never heard of anything pressed into pistons either. NOS pistons are all over ebay for under 200 a set. I think it was power wagon john that used to sell them for 5 bucks a piece? with such a large NOS inventory I wouldn't buy new. I think lots of parts are made in china now so quality suspect at a minimum.
Egge and Jahns I believe are still made here
