Well, as a 230 piston rod becomes misaligned over time, it and the piston forces the pin towards the front of the engine. It will actually push the clip and piston material outwards towards the cylinder wall. I personally would not go that route, based on what I've seen with this condition on my engine. If the rods aren't realigned when rebuilding, the engine may not last as long as it would otherwise.
I believe Egge Machine still uses clips and I would use those pistons, contact them - see link.
