I just did a 6bt, NV 4500 with a married 205 in my Chevy 3500. The adaptor was cast iron. The T-csae was off a 89 auto. I believe it was a 29 spline, you're right they are getting hard to find, I'm sure you could change input or outputs to suit you're needs, but of course having the right part is always easier than tearing eveything apart.
