I have a factory manual covering 41-47 models that does not go into great detail regarding the windshield frame. It does cover the alignment once mounted to the cab, but it's disassembly is very simple. The problem lies with 60 to 40 years of mother nature doing its thing. While a windshield may look ok on the outside, once you disassemble it, you may find the glass channel ate out on the inside. Thats why I near buy a frame with the glass still in it! If you want the frame in good shape when your son takes over, I suggest you deal with now. Take it apart, inspect it, coat it with Por-15 inside the frame housing and outside and put in new glass and rubber. Also put silicone seal in the holes that lets water inside the frame housing. Or you can take your chances and hope someone starts reproducing these.

This is as good as it gets once the windshield is out of the truck.

Windshield Frame Disassembly

Gently pry off each side joint cover, if the frame still has them and also the center bar cover. If screws are rusted, follow these procedures:

1. Use a 1/16th drill for a pilot hole (no deeper than 5/16);
2. Then use a 5/32 drill, to drill new holes;
3. Use a 10-32 tape for new threads, chaffer with a 5/16 drill (side bars if required);
4. Use 10-32x1/4 flat head Phillip screws for the sides, top and round head Phillips for the regulator;
5. Use an anti-seize lubricant on re-assembly.
