Hello Matt,

I don't know of any Dodge truck flathead motors that were full flow. I have a Chrysler Spitfire that appears to be full flow. But as you have brought up the subject I offer an alternative view as to a filter arrangement.

What are you after? Cheap and easy oil filters? If a little mess is a problem then you have the wrong truck. Not meaning to be flip here but a partial flow bypass filter is the better filter as it can filter to a finer degree (particulates) than a full flow and that is what a filter is all about. Without getting into all of the finer points of extenuating circumstances that are not even relevant to a stock (old) Power Wagon you gain nothing by going to a full flow. No fuss no mess?... Wrong truck. What you want is to do the best job of cleaning up your oil when you or circumstances are at their worst.

A partial flow bypass filter is the most efficient filter to actually clean your oil of the harmful effects of what you are going to encounter. Changing oil to get rid of acid build up is necessary but a filter is ment to clean up solid particles. A full flow filter will not do a better job. It will do a worse job of it.

If you want to really optimize your filtration change the stock bypass filter with another bypass filter that uses a toilet Paper roll as the filter element such as a Franz unit. It hooks up the same. It will clean up dirty oil far better than the original filter and is the only filter that I know of that will take water out of the oil. I have a crack in the cylinder wall on my 237 and when my truck sets a bit the oil is all milk but after it runs a while the oil cleans up like new without a trace of water. Cheaper than continually changing the oil. Until I can afford to replace the motor I just change the TP filter often and it has been doing well for a couple of years. If you are after a cheap and easy filter I can think of nothing cheaper.

I'm sure I will get a lot of boo's here from our PW brothers but think about it for a while....It cleans to a finer micron of particulates and takes out all water. Simple, cheap and very effecent. After all.... That's what this is all about.

The Best, Jackson
