16.5 rims (15 degree drop center tubeless)
were avail in 4 widths for 5 standard
size tires
the approved * fitments are listed
6.00 x 16.5 used 8.00 - 16.5 size tires
and the 8.75 could be used on the narrow wheel
6.75 x 16.5 used both 8.75 & 9.50 x 16.5 tires
and the 8.00 tire could be used on the 6.75
wheel
8.25 x 16.5 used 10 x 16.5 tires
9.75 x 16.5 used 12 x 16.5 tires
the rim width is measured inside at the base of the flange if measuring outside flange to flange you would deduct 1.24 min to 2.00 max from the outside width
ie 8.00 outside would probably be a 6.00 width wheel
the 10.00x16.5 had a 10.40 section width
the 12.00x16.5 had a 12.10 section width
so a 12.50 wide tire would most likely have
the 9.75 wheel as the design rim width but you should check with the tire manufacturer
correct tire/wheel size matching is critical so the tire bead seats/fits correctly
* the above data is from Tire & Rim association Year book and should be available at any good TRUCK tire store for you to reference
again
you can / should always check with the tire manufacturer for their design/recommended fitments when mounting non original size tires (the tire store people might tell you anything to make the sale)
