I like to use Permatex #2 on both sides of the gasket. Clean the pan and the block with brake cleaner. Put the sealer on both the block and the pan, Spread the sealer evenly. Use enough - don't skimp (don't trowel it on either) .Carefully put the gaskets on (either the block or the pan - the sealer will hold the gasket in place.
When you install the pan do not tighten the bolts until all the bolts are installed.Leave a gap around the pan until you are ready to tighten all the bolts. Tighten the bolts evenly and torque them. Be sure to add the oil to the engine!!!! Warm the engine and torque the bolts again.
The pan gasket will not leak. You may want to install a new front main and rear main seals as well (They leak alot easier than a pan gasket).
