I'm converting a beat up 74 W-300 into a serious off road machine. I have a 12,000 lb. Tulsa winch that's currectly on a 61 W-300 to put on the 74.
Problem is, I don't like the way the winch sticks out on the front. Since I'm making drastic alterations to the front of the 74 for better angle of approach, I have thought about moving the winch up & back. This will involve moving the radiator up and sloped back as well. This vehicle will have a tube frame front W/ no air cond system nor need to use existing core support system headlights, etc. Still alot of work.

A friend suggested I might just go with a centrally mnt'ed winch with the cable run through HD tubing to my front roller fairlead. I know I will need to be able to have easy access the winch for cable freespool control, etc. Cab is going to be open topped and rear so I can walk right onto flatbed area. Might be able to put the winch under front of flatbed area?
Sound good?
Is there a conversion set up for a 12,lb Tulsa winch to be centrally mnt'ed? I know shaft length/s will need to be custom.
Am I better off getting a different winch system for a centrally mnt'ed set up?
This will be a heavy truck, Est 10,000 lbs so I want a big winch.

Any ideas will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks! Larry
