I suspect your right. You wouldn’t want to have a bright light to go on in the middle of the night on the battlefield. Why else did they have cans with slits for the dash lights and the blackout lights. The carryall had an interior light but it might have had a red bulb to reduce visibility. The only read I can see to have a light in the carryall would be for the radio operator.
