agree with all that. My truck has 4.88s and short tires so the OD is great. the gap between 3rd and 4th (direct) is a bit large running around the hilly town i live in but worth it for the OD on the highway.
my other option was to switch to 4.11 rear diff and keep the direct drive. but i like 4.88 gears. steep hills where i live and I can pull any with ease.
the direct drive version i had was with the very low 7.41 first gear. basically never used. i was starting out in 3rd gear loaded with gravel at 12k on the scale. basically it was a 3 speed truck. ;/)
with the OD and 4.88s there is no bogging down in 5th. it gives me more top end than if I went with direct drive and 4.11 diff
