We have a fantastic smaller local hardware store chain in our area. I go there first because they have it and people know their stuff. Home Depot and Lowe’s are ok for certain things but they are second choice without question.
I have noticed another significant decline in quality again in the last couple of years. Brands that use to be high quality are now trash. I am seeing some new brands, obviously Chinese that are better than tried and true American brands. A real sorry story from my point of view.
I recently bought a pair of rubber boots. I wore them for a couple hours and had to take them back. They had injection points right above my toes which left me bloody. I found a real nice pair of Canadian boots to replace them. I think they are the best ones I have ever had. I found them on clearance at REI.
True Temper shovels now have a plastic handle with untrimmed injection points right where your hand goes and no longer tempered steel.
