Something is wrong there. Is it pinched or not centered on the pivot pin? Did you happen to stretch it a little when installing or are the attachment points off on the reproduction one leaving a little extra material near the pivot pin. Try working both sides to see if you can work it out. Take the original and closely compare it to your new one.
I have seen minor differences in reproduction rubber parts that cause issues. I wonder if VPW has them made or do they source from someone else.
