Makes no difference 6 or 12v. The straps are just to make sure there is a good ground connection from the motor to frame, or wherever you're negative battery connection goes to. Usually the motor has rubber mounts, and the frame to body has rubber so you need to make sure there is a good electrical connection between the two.
