That is a tough situation for the area that don't see that kind of weather. In the North we bury our pipes 5 feet and have 6 inch insulated walls and 12 in the ceiling. We have gas heat with a back up and electricity with a back up just in case and we have used it a few times.The mail just waits until they can get through and they are prepared ,also extra food and a water well. Its not bad when you know it will happen and knowing it will pass And I like it here
