The low-geared differentials are somewhat of a sticking point for electric conversion. Electric motors have sufficient torque as it is. The low gearing of the differentials make it have to run at higher RPM, which takes higher voltage. Converting the voltage to a higher value is quite doable, but doesn't come free. However, we're getting better and better at conversion efficiency. My expectation is that the most successful conversions will simply be accomplished with a higher gearing.
