Can't use original dash gauge with aftermarket sender.
One it is 6V, you can add a resistor if using
A stock sender.
More importantly the early trucks used a two wire system which heats a bi-metal strip in the Gauge that heats a coil to move the needle.
Current flows from the sending unit to the gauge and back to the sending unit.
This is a King-Seeley/Auto-Lite system

You will need to re-use the original sending unit with added resistor or replace the gauge.
