Earlier this month the wife and I were leaded to Eastern Washington for a couple days. We were in our 2013 F350 dually with the camper on it. We got about 40 miles down the road and hit a small in bump the road a then it was a full and vicious death wobble which surprised and scared me. This truck has never done anything like that before. We continued on and had 2 more episodes in the next mile. I pulled over and checked the front end and there was no movements in the steering joints. So we start out again and it happens 2 more times in the next mile. The kicker was we had hit similar roughness in the road in the first 40 miles of the trip. My wife pops up and says that there is a Les Schwab 1/2 mile away. I said let’s go because I don’t think I can get home this way.

We pull in and they said it would be about an hour before they got to us. They checked the front end and no obvious issues. I knew one of the front tires was wearing more than the other and I pointed that out to them. He looked at the tire and said that could be the source. We took the tire off and put the spare on the same rim. We took off down the road and never had a hint of anything. Problem solved.

Thinking about what happened, it is obvious that I had a tire failure as we had no problems until 40 miles and nothing after the tire change. I still have the bad tire on a spare wheel and I have put a brand new rim and tire under the truck as a spare. I actually have 2 complete spare tires and rims, one which I carry in the 5 wheel I tow.

I actually have 2 spares for the 5th wheel also. We go to a lot of areas where it could be 100 miles to a tire shop and I am not interested in being stuck somewhere. Les Schwab has been a life saver for me over the years when it comes to on the road tire issues and mounting my PW and Carryall tires.
