With regard to the oil nozzle that squirts oil onto the timing chain/sprockets, here's a tip from George Asche, who is a long-time flathead rebuilder and racer. He's one of the originals from that era, being nearly 90 years old now, and has spent a great deal of his driving time behind flathead sixes for the past 70+ years. He told me a couple of years ago that the oiler tubes/nozzles in many of these engines were on the small side and provided only a marginally adequate amount of oil. He said he often saw engines with excessive timing chain and sprocket wear when running with the smaller nozzle, but opening up the nozzle improved the situation. He recommends using a drill bit to open them to a larger size.

He couldn't remember what size he uses, but he thought it was 1/16". I have a nozzle from a late 40's or early 50's 230 and one from an early 60's 251. I measured them both a while back, using drill bits of different sizes to determine the diameter of the hole in each. The hole in the 230 nozzle was about 0.042", while the hole in the 251 nozzle was about 0.056". I went ahead and opened up the 251 hole to 1/16", using a drill bit of that size. I plan to use it when I get my engine back together. You might consider checking yours and opening it up as well.
