I have run into that issue also. I believe that it might be a simple issue of old age. Many of these clutch parts have been rebuilt so many times you are looking at metal fatigue. You basically can’t get new anymore as they have not been used in the industry for years.

When my spring fell out For the second time I took it to a rebuilder and he said no longer rebuildable as it had cracks in the metal. Same for the spare I took to him. He said it is a common problem for these old clutch plates.

You need to find NOS like I had to. It solved the problem for me.
