Maybe a little late to the party. I've rebuilt several hinges, starting with, as suggested, heating the hinge to cherry red, then driving the pin out with a punch. With the hinge apart, soaked everything in metal cleaner, then drilled, tapped and installed a zerk fitting in the hinge. A shot of grease every fall, and the hinges are still working as designed for over 30 years now.
