that works too. on one of my trucks that had to get an inspection I had the plate on the inside of the frame - Then I bolted a crossmember on top. Very strong and the inspector never noticed the frame had been welded. They get bent out of shape over welded frames, bolt some sort of bracket on top and they seem to miss the welds:)
