Yes the front part of the frame has an inner and outer c channel. No, there is no real way to take them apart to inspect. Just visually inspect. Look for swelling between the two pieces along with heavy flaking or pitting of either piece. Look for any separation between the two pieces. Any significant damage should be visible.
