OT.. anybody familiar with Fairbanks, Alaska?

My oldest step-son is a staff sgt in the USAF. Currently they are finishing up his 4th & final year in Guam. Next Spring it looks like they are heading to Eielson AFB. Since we never visited them in Guam (they did come home to Tx twice) I'm sure we will be heading up there eventually. I haven't been on a plane since 2005 & didn't really intend to ever again, but the call of grandchildren may change that. Once we get there, what is there to do/see that may not be in the "Explore Fairbanks" visitors guide? Thanks
