I have an original speedometer cable in my truck and it needs lube I think. The cable has the steel shroud/tube instead of plastic like the new ones you can buy at auto parts store.
I was thinking of pulling out the drive cable and then using the same gear oil I used in the transmission. Dripping it into the tube and letting it run back down, then reinstalling the drive cable. But then I remember my Dad using white lithium grease on them as well.
But I seem to remember that Mopar had speedometer lube at one time.
What are people using?
