The only thing I thing I think I've heard is that if the diaphragm in the mechanical pump ever develops a hole, the electric pump can pump a lot of fuel into the crankcase. Otherwise, I don't think there's an issue. I ran dual pumps for several years, using the electric one to prime the carb before starting the engine, and also to overcome vapor lock as needed. The mechanical pump finally quit on me and I ran the electric only for several more years. It never did quit on me.
