Brakes, one of our favorite subjects. I do not know about anyone else, but I had a heck of a time sealing the lower plug hole on a new Raybestos MC 544. The kit included provides a bunch of plastic plugs, none of which worked, the old pipe plug from my old MC didn’t work either, so I finally cut threads for a ½-20 bolt and used a sealing washer, that took care of it.
The other issue is oxidized WC pistons. Having done some research on the net, several forums suggested using Dielectric Grease on the cylinder wall, and piston, so I applied this on the right front WC, so I will see how it works. It was stated that WCs that had SS or Brass sleeves still experienced the oxidized pistons problem.
In searching for brake fluid, I came across Pentosin, a German product that is a thick brake fluid Dot 4 that resists penetration and absorbance by water and provides superior corrosion resistance. Its boiling point performs better than most factory fluids.
I also installed SS Speed Bleeders with SS ball that allows fluid out and prevents air from coming into the cylinder during bleeding. These allow one person to bleed the system, I was extremely impressed with the product. If interested, visit www.speedbleeder.com, Part# SB71620-SS 7/16-20.
When bleeding the brakes, fill the MC reservoir, then using your hand pump the pedal all the way to the floor 3 times, then fill the reservoir again. Start with the right rear wheel, repeat the process 4 times to move all the air out, then once (floor 3 times, then fill the reservoir again) for all the other WCs
