Greg, yeah, I can imagine a 6 x 6 would need more power. And don't get me wrong, I can appreciate the work and craftsmanship I see in so many conversions. I even thought about putting a V8 or a 4-cylinder diesel in my '49 Power Wagon, but I decided I couldn't bring myself to do it. I like the uniqueness of the flathead and the non-synchro transmission with its gear whine. I like pulling out the choke and stepping on the starter pedal. Of course, mine is not going to be all original either pretty soon. I've been working on a 265 flathead to go in the truck, but it will look original (except for the dual carbs and headers) and it'll use the original transmission. It'll definitely retain the feel of the period. That's about as far as I was willing to go. Hopefully I'll actually get it done one of these years. It's been on the back burner for a long time, unfortunately.
