Swapping in a LA 318 and Hydraulic Bellhosuing and NP435 is what's in my M37.

I must assume based on your question, that your combination did not come together, and you are building it from parts.

IF the 318 was from an automatic, you will need the needle Pilot Bearing that fits in the torque converter recess. (94 and newer, part number BCA #FC69907, or Mopar # 53009180AB)

My combination came from a 1968 W200, and and it had the correct shaft. Mine has the 10 spline rather than the 23 spline. You might check with Novak Conversions (http://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/transmissions/manual/np435/).
