Ya, there's been a lot of discussion about by-pass filters. The 230/251 engines clean oil two ways; by gravity when the engine is not running pulling particles into the sludge that forms at the bottom of the pan, and by cleaning 10% of the oil as the engine runs. The by-pass filter cleans better than a spin-on filter. There's also been a lot of discussion about sludge. The bottom of the pan has about a 1/4 layer that remains at that layer because the pan drain plug is above the bottom of the pan. Any excess sludge is drained when changing the oil, it does not circulate in the engine, so it should not be a concern to anyone.

I would go with Valvoline Non-Detergent 30W oil, part# 822382. Valvoline is a good product.
