Dad and I ran into this problem on the W-100 with its 5380 yokes and joints.
Measuring outside of the clips when installed on the joint showed it was 0.020" wider than the inside of the yoke. He surface ground something like 0.011" off each of those clips. There were others needing less material removed and could be installed out of the box but the joint was so tight it could not move. As a note we also had the reverse of this situation where we had to shim behind the clips to maintain a good fit in the yokes.
It appears new production joints do not seem to have the grooves in the correct or same locations manufacturer to manufacturer.
I did track down some standard full diameter snap ring of the correct width to fit one of the joint configurations but they were a pain to install. Surface grinding the correct omega shape clips was a much better option for us.
