Don't be concerned with the old solenoid, it appears shorted. Having studied the wiring diagram for the WM300, do this.
- Install the new solenoid.
- From the "S" terminal on the ignition switch, connect that wire (orange) to the "S" terminal on the solenoid.
- You will not use the "I" terminal on the solenoid.
- From the "S" terminal on the switch, there should be the pink wire, connect that wire to the red wire going to the coil. That will by-pass the ballast resister for a full 12V ignition.
From the image you provided it looks like someone attached the pink to the "I" on the solenoid which would be incorrect.
After you do this, wiring will be correct and hopefully solve the problem. Keep us informed on your progress.
