I had a “faux vapor lock” situation 2 years ago in the Black Hills on a hot day. Also there is elevation up there.

This was a very unusual situation for this truck; the symptom was fuel starvation just like with the typical vapor lock from the fuel line getting hot and boiled gas, etc.

It turned out, after a lot of work, to be largely from the stock “stone” fuel filter in the glass bowl being clogged to an extent. This, added to hot weather caused the vapor lock.

The filter was not “dirty” looking, it was not noticeable by eyeing it.

Placing the filter in a jar of carb cleaner caused the solution to turn the color of ice tea!
The problem was solved after a second bath cleaned it all out.
Driving it on very hot days after this did not cause vapor lock again.

I Also got another NOS stone filter from Tom to have in the glovebox.
