Offered for sale: 1968 Dodge D-200 3/4 ton, long bed stepside 4 X 2 pickup.
Former CALTRANS (California Department of Transportation) vehicle- a piece of California’s car culture history. It was stationed originally in Southern California, and remained there until I purchased it.
Solid OEM orange paint (it will still buff to a shine if you want). It still has flag holder tubes mounted on the back of the cab. Tailgate is original, with warning stripes. Roof mounted spotlight and several amber warning lights.
Bed wood has been replaced with a steel plate - original wood (needs replacement) and metal strips in bed are present under the steel plate, as well as the original underbed spare tire carrier (spare is currently carried on right side step of bed).
Equipped with a 318 engine and automatic transmission. Starts, runs, drives and stops great - no known issues - everything works as it should - heater, lights, etc. (left turn signal is sticky).
Manual choke, Pertronix ignition, dual exhausts, and oil bath air cleaner.
All lights work (an amber rotating light for the roof is included, but not installed).
I am the third owner after it was surplused.
It currently has 68,000 original miles.
Within the past 4,000 miles, it has received a complete new set of brakes, 17.5” radial tires (5), distributor, carb, fuel pump, water pump, belts and hoses. I had it looked over by my mechanic, and he found everything in good order (receipts included).
The cab, bed and rear fenders are in excellent condition.
A tool box is mounted on the left side step of the bed.
The only rust spots are those visible in the lower corners of the doors - a common Dodge rust spot.
All other typical rust spots are fine.
Rebuilt/recovered seat, and aftermarket sound system (easily removed if desired - no dash or door holes).
Includes an amber rotating beacon for the roof (not currently mounted).
A few extra small drilled holes from the original and previous owners (I am the third civilian owner).
Original keys with CALTRANS key tag.
It has a clear California title, and is on Planned Non-Op status (no back DMV fees due).
It has California retro black and yellow “POTHOLE” license plates assigned to it.
I can also link you to an artist who can produce period-correct CALTRANS magnetic logos for the doors, if you like.
Fun to drive and people love it. You would be hard-pressed to find a more unique, dependable and original Dodge in CALTRANS colors. If you are on this site, you recognize that this is a rare vehicle, highly original and in great condition- don’t let it get away.
